step two

Today's schedule pretty much encapsulates the essence of every Summer I've spent in Singapore:

Wake up ridiculously early. Ridiculous because the shops in Singapore only open at 10am.
Walk to the markets for wanton mee and sugarcane.
Purchase and carry home supplies (milk, bread, papaya) in the humid heat.

Janet yeemah took me shopping after lunch. Today's destination was Marina Square. We must have walked into every single shoe shop (and a couple of other shops) before we finally settled on the second pair of white shoes that we'd seen:

And of course, dinner was at Yeemah's house.

Today's completed checklist of last-minute preparations for Austria:
- Comfortable white shoes for the placement
- Instant noodles and chopsticks
- Top up SIM card

a single step

Even now I can hardly believe that in 3 days' time I will (hopefully) be in Austria.

I've begun the slow process of convincing myself by packing :).

Some things I cannot travel without (bar sufficient clothes):
- Journal
- Spectacles
- Lip balm

on tuesday i found myself at blockbuster. i guess i didn't last very long, trying to stay off movies. i borrowed night at the museum, dream girls, and man about town. i liked man about town the best. and no, that's not because of ben affleck. i thought the movie was well done. the characters weren't your standard cut-out figures, (i'm not talking about the weird chinese girl thing) and there were some nice shots, including my favourite, the elevator scene.

i didn't realise that i could fastforward the ads, so i watched them all, deciding that i wanted to watch art school confidential and the wicker man (but that's not possible because i'll get nightmares), and crying my way through the gridiron gang trailer. i really like that movie. i was pretty irritated with my brother when he said it looked boring.

The world is littered with unfinished visions, and is not life such a vision? And is not the finishing of any thing a little death?
